Orphaned characters are so often used in stories be that of super heroes or day time soap operas. I very rarely come across a story that looks at adoption issues realistically which is likely why there are so many misconceptions about adoption. Plus most adoptees/orphans roots tracing into their pasts can actually be a very boring and frustrating process that can take years.
But then again, sometimes a good story is worth a break from reality. =P
I don’t normally have time to colour my comics, but I have a bit of spare time over the holiday. Very happy new year to everyone! =D

In general I’ve been far less involved in adoption in general as I work hard on other aspects of my freelance work. However this morning someone left a nice comment on this site saying that I should do more adoption comics. I don’t know if it was weather I was looking for something to do on a lazy Sunday, of if i’d just happened to watch an adoption documentary on the BBC.
So Carole, here is a new comic, much sooner then I’d intended =).
Since i combined comics with adoption issues, i’ve always wanted to try doing a comic about this topic. I’m sure this wont be the only time I do one on this topic =). While this is def not an exclusive transracial adoptee issue… I do know that sometimes I’m lost for what to actually answer that question with.
I need to give some credit to my husband on this comic who helped me simplify it =).

It’s been a while since I last did a comic. I sketched a rough of this out years ago but every year seemed to miss Halloween so never able to get it done. Even though I’m in the middle of moving house I was determined to get this one out this year!

The adoption community are often approached for media and research participation requests. For many in the adoption community, we tread a fine line between exposer that adds to much needed adoption awareness and being used as subject of other peoples intrigue or projects (including inside the adoption community itself). It really depends on the person as some feel their adoption is personal (rightly so) and choose to keep it private… while others feel they have a duty to have their stories heard.
Personally I have done all of the things I listed in this comic (and then some). I have meet so many great people because of it, but I also have learnt a lot of lessons and I am much more choosey over what I become involved in. Still, good to know I have a supposedly interesting life.

This is the comic I wanted to launch this site with. It also feels appropriate as the previous comic project (www.adoptedthecomic.com) I was involved with has now come to an end and Stray Thoughts is the start of a new part of my journey. This Stray Thoughts Comics will be about a lot of different topis, however just because the other comic ended I knew I still wanted to do adoption comics for time to time.
I was really happy how this one turned out. That single line “squiggle” was a lot harder to draw than it looks, I think it took me about 30 attempts =P. This wasn’t necessarily based on my own journey as I was inspired by the many adoptees been privileged to be in connection with vastly different experiences I feel that this is my ode to them. I know there are plenty of words missing from this list… I tried to cut down on the emotional words or I would have never got them all in =P.

This was a comic left over from my pervious online comic project (www.adoptedthecomic.com). Both the writer and myself looked at the topic of sunbathing and developed two different comic ideas. This was my take on it based on my own experience of me and my sister having lovely tans as kids while my parents not so much lolz =). As the Adopted the Comic project came to an end before I could complete it, I thought I’d add it here instead =)
I won’t normally do the comics in colour, but I think it was needed in this case =)
